- Description
This coffee comes to us from Ninga Washing Station, operated by Long Miles Coffee. This is the third washing station to be built in the coffee producing region of Giku Hill, in Burundi’s Butanyerera Province. To say Ninga is remote is an understatement. This 10-kilometer plot of land is situated at 1,900m above sea level and is bordered by the Nkokoma River. The coffee trees on this hill occupy all available space, stretching from the edge of the dirt paths that wind through the hills to the doorways of the mud-brick homes self-built by the farmers. Before this station was built in 2020, farmers in these villages had to carry their coffee for miles to the neighboring village. Often on foot, and these bags of coffee cherries often weighed more than 45 kilos.
Since its first season, the hill has produced elegant and complex coffees with layered and clean flavors. Long Miles Coffee's commitment to working more closely with this hill has never been stronger.
