- Description
At 1,900 meters above sea level, the highest plots of the plantation, known as Altos del Paraíso, produce coffees with such unique character that José Ignacio Gómez López has chosen to consider them a micro-terroir in their own right. As co-owner of Procaal and a leading figure in the specialty coffee scene in Nariño, José combines deep expertise with a forward-thinking agricultural approach.
His work reflects a strong commitment to both environmental management and social impact. Coffee is grown alongside crops such as citrus and avocados, fostering biodiversity and resilience, while a custom-designed solar dryer allows natural light and airflow to ensure precise and energy-efficient processing. Concurrently, José actively supports the local community through his role in the Cooperativa de Cafés Especiales de Nariño, helping fellow producers access better markets.
Finca El Paraíso remains a family-run operation, where every cherry is hand-picked by experienced harvesters, ensuring exceptional quality while providing sustainable livelihoods. Our visits to José, the most recent being last August, continue to deepen a relationship built on trust, shared values, and a passion for exceptional coffee.
