Faux Mouvement is a physical location, clothing store, and café that brings together runners and community members. Whatever their motivation, those who come together at Faux Mouvement share an interest in beautiful things, but especially good things.
We are committed to offering unique and responsible products that promote responsible consumption. Whether through our clothing, shoes or coffee, we favor partners who share our vision of sustainable production. In this quest for more respectful consumption, we have chosen to offer coffee beans exclusively from micro-mills .

But what is a micro-mill and how important is it to advocate this type of production?
Coffee beans are hidden in coffee cherries. Since the 1960s, their extraction has been dominated mainly by large multinationals, which roast and sell the final product without considering the social and environmental impact on the producing communities. This model, based on massive processing plants, called mega-mills , aims at mass consumption, often to the detriment of local land and producers.

In the early 2000s, a revolution began with micro-mills , with the aim of giving power back to local producers. Micro-mills meet several needs:
- Environmental : Production that is more respectful of soils and local communities, with reduced carbon emissions through mechanical processes. These limit the use of fermentation and washing, which require significant quantities of water.
- Traceability : Each batch of coffee acquires a unique identity, allowing for greater transparency and a direct link with the terroir and the producer’s methods.
- Reappropriation of production : Producers can receive the true value of their work, by avoiding intermediaries and having greater control over each stage of the chain.
This recent paradigm shift now allows producers to establish fair relationships with roasters willing to pay a fair price for their work. Thanks to micro-mills, producers earn twice as much by promoting a coffee bean grown using more environmentally friendly methods. An approach in perfect harmony with Faux Mouvement's vision: supporting conscious consumption, promoting craftsmanship and offering meaningful products.

We traveled to Costa Rica in 2018 to learn more about the impact of this revolution in the world of coffee. At the heart of the plantations, we discovered passionate artisans who are committed to their responsible production.
